Editorial Team
This page sets out the roles that make up the editorial team of QAIRU Journal, the rules for appointing and composing the editorial board, and how manuscripts from members of the team are handled.
The editorial team of QAIRU Journal is built around five roles. The Editor-in-Chief carries responsibility for the scientific standard of the journal; four Deputy Editors, one for each subject area, handle the manuscripts in their field; the Managing Editor runs the editorial office and the Technical Editor runs production and the journal's technical systems; the Editorial Board advises on policy and scope and reviews manuscripts. The team is being formed: the members already appointed are named below, and the remaining entries are placeholders. The full list is published before the first issue.

Appointment and composition
The journal applies the following rules to the composition of its editorial team.
- Members are appointed by the Editor-in-Chief and approved by the publisher.
- Appointments run for a stated term and are renewable.
- A member must have a publication record in one of the journal's subject areas.
- The board is deliberately international, and is not drawn from a single country or a single research school.
- The journal limits the share of board members affiliated with the publisher, so that editorial control is not concentrated in one institution.
- The name, affiliation and country of every member are published on this page, together with the ORCID identifier where the member has one.
Responsibilities
A member of the editorial board undertakes to:
- advise on the journal's policy and on the boundaries of its scope;
- review two to four manuscripts a year;
- help attract submissions in their field;
- declare conflicts of interest, and step aside from any manuscript where one exists — see conflicts of interest.
Editorial independence
Decisions on manuscripts are taken by the editors on scholarly grounds: the validity of the work, its importance to the field, and the clarity of its presentation. The publisher does not intervene in decisions on individual manuscripts and does not influence the outcome of peer review. See editorial policies.
Manuscripts from the editorial team
A manuscript submitted by the Editor-in-Chief, a Deputy Editor or a member of the editorial board is assigned to an editor who has no involvement with it. The author has no access to the submission file, to the identities of the reviewers or to the correspondence about the manuscript at any stage. Where such a manuscript is published, the fact that the author is a member of the editorial team and that the manuscript was handled by an uninvolved editor is recorded in the published article. See the peer review process.
